Gah! We've about rewritten this book, haven't we??
I actually don't think that we should rewrite the book to align it with the timeline in the MC - I'd go with the footnote.
Another fun inconsistency - there is talk of Ixian magic, but according to the MC, "the power of magic" was not introduced in Aon until Kai & Ishir "designed" the Elder Magi.
