[vicsireland] Some iPhone text questions

Hi folks,
I can make and take a call on the iPhone, but am somewhat confused about
texting.
I know you can read a text if it’s received when the phone is locked.
However, once unlocked, does the message appear in messages, or under the
phone options, such as recents or contacts?
Is the most recent message always at the top?
Having read text messages, I was surprised not to find a reply button. I
now understand that if you choose edit, you can compose a reply and then
send it.
Where do you go to compose a totally new message?
I’m confused as to the difference between recents, contacts and messages!
I should explain that the whole texting thing is a fairly new experience
for me. At least that’s my excuse!
Another problem I find, is that the volume of the ringing tone can be
low. It may be a question of the volume keys on the side of the phone
being knocked about in my pocket. I think the volume is set to max under
Settings.
