Andy

As I mentioned earlier I know nothing of vista but according to the article at http://www.lockergnome.com/windows/2006/10/18/configure-tcpip-in-vista/ it seems the same as xp. The only reason I can think of as to why the ip configuration area is not available is that your administrator priveleges have not been enabled. You can follow the instruction shown at http://www.tech-faq.com/enable-windows-vista-administrator-account.shtml to check this and change settings if required.

As well as the ip address you'll need to enter your subnet mask which you will be able to get via your router or if you fire up your PC, go to a command prompt by start menu, run, and type in cmd. when in the command window type in ipconfig. Your ip address and subnet mask will be displayed. To exit from the command prompt just type in exit.

Hi Martin -

The OS is Vista on the laptop, and I can't find a tab for IP, there are only
2 pages under properties one is connection, and the other is security. Under
connection, it just shows check boxes for connecting when in range or to a
prefered network, nothing about setting the IP address -

|
| Start menu
| settings
| control panel
| Network connections
| highlight wireless connection
| press alt-enter to get into properties
| scroll down to internet protocol (TCP-IP)
| tab to properties and press enter
| there you will find the radio buttons for setting ip to auto or manual.
| select the manual tcp-ip and enter your ip address. If you are going to
use
| your PC and laptop together make sure your PC hasn't already been
| allocated the same ip address, you may have to set your pc address
manually
| as well, try it out and see first.
| I don't think you'll need to set dns to manual so just tab past this and
| the advanced button and OK the new ip setting when done.
