Yes George, the mixer does allow for the separation of volume levels for JFW and system sounds in Vista, but it's much the same thing isn't it? Either way, JAWS has to be silenced, and unloading is a quick key stroke, as is reloading again - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: "George Bell" <george@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 4:59 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: VISTA and recording with GoldWaveHi Andy, Have you explored "Volume Mixer" in Vista. For example, I can be listening to a CD playing, while also playing Spider Solitaire, and by going into Volume Mixer, I can Mute or Reduce the sound level produced by the card game. I've not explored this with JAWS as I've yet to install it on this Vista system, so it's rather unknown territory in that area. Thinking of possible reasons why this mixer setting isdisabled bydefault, could be to stop system sounds getting intorecordings? Thenagain, maybe they're controled separately. He's been told there that someone is recording streams using an external USB card and hereckons to behaving no trouble. Maybe I should have a think about a well worded Google search on this subject, but I sure don't want to end up with a PCwhere I cannotcarry on doing what I've taken for granted this past couple of years or so. Wouldn't it be interesting to know what broadcasters here think about the recording of internet streams? Seeing how peoplehave beenrecording radio programmes for as long as anyone canremember, andthey've even harvested long lost recordings because of this, where exactly lies the problem? It isn't as though you canget reallydecent music recordings this way; streams often leave a good deal to be desired, qualitywise. I followed the instructions, but unfortunately , itdid notassistmemuch. Caroline told me to go into Sound/Recording and look for other devices. I did this but only got one more Line-Infunction,associated to the computer's internal card. I've got my Soundblaster set as the default and Ican listentotheBBC Player and listen to music files using GoldWave, but as yet, I cannot find a way of getting GW to record audiostreams. This is so frustrating and disappointing Ray. If I cannot resolve this issue, I'll need to consider removing VISTA and installing XP Media Center. Best wishes.
