Hi Ray.

I'm beginning to freak up here in freezing Scotland mate. Last April I purchased a Zoostorm XP Media Center computer, which did allow you to record "What you hear". I hated the computer and sold it half price less than six months later. A week ago I purchased a Hewlett Packard VISTA computer, which does look as if I cannot record, for example, What I hear from the BBC Radio Player thus disabling me from burning this onto CD's. The computer cost me £600 and I can honestly see myself selling it off at a reduced price before the month is out.

I enjoy music and like to record radio programmes or AD movies and burning these onto CD's or DVD;so and giving these out to friends. If VISTA is going to prevent me from recording anything which comes through my sound card, then I'll have to consider selling and moving back to XP Media Center again. The future in this respect is quite frightening. It's like buying a hi-fi, which has a cassette player, which is unable to record.

This is very depressing for me as I like GoldWave and being able to record just about anything which I hear.

I'm waiting for someone to tell me that VISTA will allow me to record. I've even written to GoldWave asking their advice as well as John Wilson, but thus far, I've heard nothing. Very depressing or what?

XP Home is going to end very soon, so XP Media Center will probably be the only platform available which allows this flexibility. I really do hope I'm wrong here, but my gut feeling and the silence from a number of lists is telling me the worst mate.

This is for me perhaps, the end of one important aspect of computing. Without this facility, I'd need to ask myself if computing offers much for me in the future.

If you discover any information which would reassure me, please let me know he?

Best wishes.

Andy.

Andy, very likely it is Vista that's stopping you recording streaming
audio, though in the final analysis I won't be catagorical about this.
It is set up, as I understand it to stop you doing just this. Some
machines from Dell and other manufacturers are competely closed boxes
for audio purposes too.

This said, programs such as Replay AV and now I think Total Recorder,
have got around this limitation, which I think absolutely stinks.

What's more the sellers of these programs say their's nothing ilegal
in what their programs do.

This is a big reason why I won't go near Vista at present, though it
is hard to believe that if you buy a computer set up for audio use
that this horrible crippling would not be overridden.

This is something Microsoft has to rethink.

Hi all.

I'm experiencing some difficulty getting VISTA and my Soundblaster 24
bit
external sound card to record "What you hear". I regularly record
from BBC
Radio Scotland and would hate to think that VISTA is intent to prevent
me
from being able to do this.

Would love to hear from anyone using VISTA with GoldWave.

Best wishes.

Andy.
