Although I have not followed this thread carefully, may I make a suggestion
here. I don't
know what recording software you have installed (e.g. Gold Wave, Sound Forge
etc.), but to
test the microphone why not use the Windows Sound Recorder - Program menu,
Accessories, Entertainment, Sound Recorder. It only records for 1 minutes, but
that should
be sufficient to establish whether your microphone is working. Just record
your voice and
then play it back.
