Rocket Encyclopedia Illustrated Hardcover ? 1959 Editor: John W. Herrick
It's a pretty interesting book. Being state of the art from 1959 it now
doubles as a history book.
Mostly a history book, I'd say -- there are interesting snippets in it
here and there, but the technical content is uneven and some of it is very
dated. (Bear in mind that an unclassified 1959 book couldn't talk about
the details of most late-1950s rocketry, so much of the content is from
earlier. Similarly, Sutton 2nd edition -- 1956 -- is strong on German WW2
work and rather weak on early-50s US work!)
Of course, here and there you also find discussions of alternate
approaches that almost everybody has forgotten about, some of which might
be worth reviving... My copy is on my spaceflight-history shelves, not my
rocketry-technical shelves, but I do consult it once in a while.
