Thanks for all that info--very useful for the future.
The route in question was from Northern England to Southern
England, so met one of your criteria; all relevant maps were
loaded.
The no-keys reset however did the trick, and I have deliberately
re-created this and other long routes to places nearby in
Kensington and the problem has not recurred.
Excellent work to all concerned, and again, the route
descriptions now are so much more understandable. Especially
with the UK English language setting turned on. Way to go Kevin
(I think that's the correct American expression?). (Grin).

The four reasons that I can think of for why one may receive the
"Unable to
Create Route" message are as follows:
1. The Pedestrian or Vehicle route that is trying to be created
is outside
of the region for the loaded map(s).
2. The RichMap engine does not have enough memory to create the
route. This
basically means the unit is out of memory, which is why a no-key
reset is
recommended to free up memory.
3. A Pedestrian route is trying to be created on a non-navigable
street,
such as a highway.
4. A Vehicle route is trying to be created on a non-navigable
street, such
as a terminal for pedestrians.
Again if a starting and ending point can be given, such as an
address, POI
name or lat/lon would be great.

Hi, I have had similar difficulty creating even short routes
using GPS 5.0.
The unit says unable to create route. In the past with V 4.22, I
had the
same problems after I had been using the calculator. By doing a
simple
reset on the unit, the problem was resolved. But I don't know
what causes
this to happen before doing the reset. Jim

Using the new Sendero GPS Ver 5, trying to create a vehicle
route between
where I live in Lancashire, NW England, to Kensington in London,
about 176
miles, I get the message "this is a very long route--are you
sure you wish
to continue?" After replying Yes, almost immediately I receive
the message
"unable to create route".
In ver 4 I had no trouble creating much longer distances. Any
help
welcomed, and apologies if this is covered in the manual--can
someone
point me to more information? (smile).
