When I entered in a street address and a zip code I was given an error and forced to go back in and change the default city.

Without changing the city or state it will find 429 F st Davis CA 95616. If I don't enter in a zipcode just enter 123 main street, it will find that in buffalo NY as that is my current city. You don't need to clear the city or state fields if you don't want to. The current city and state is automatically populated for convenience.
