Mike, I vote for a choice of some or all like in navigon you can do a state or several states just like you have in your sendero navigation products for the sens nav andothers. I use your new app seeing eye gps and it gobbles up battery life and navigon does not since I have the maps on the device. Also with the maps on the device those who have limited data do not use up their data traveling and using your great seeing eye gps app. From: gps-talkusers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:gps-talkusers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Michael May Sent: Friday, July 19, 2013 06:52 To: gps-talkusers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [gps-talkusers] maps on the server or the phone Please change the subject line to match the subject. A point of clarification. It is not that having maps on the phone is not acceptable to the folks at Sendero. As most of you know, we are big fans of maps on a device. All of our other products have maps resident on the device. We have certainly been criticized for that too. There are trade offs of either approach. Because of our arrangement with Mapquest, we had to go with an approach of maps on the server. There are benefits to that now and others in the future. The battery drain has a lot to do with our frequent accessing of the server, which most people should want. We recognize this issue and are open to future changes including having some or all of the data on the phone, which will in exchange, take up a good amount of memory on your device. That means there will always be a big drain on the battery and a large amount of data usage due to this being the way the app works. So, you are paying for an app that will also cost more and demand more from your data plan if you use it frequently, and mean that the phone now can be used for GPS, but you may not have enough battery power to make a phone call. I am sorry for sending it to the list though.
