It's not just data and battery, either. As I understand it, the reason you 
don't get upcoming intersections above 15 mile per hour, and the reason 
intersection and route waypoint announcements can be so far off so often, is 
the query method. The phone only contacts the server every fifteen seconds, 
making it difficult to keep the user updated all the time, so the app errs on 
the side of causion. I of course have no clue about the business side of all 
this, but I do wonder why Sendero went with the map provider they did. With 
this provider, we can't cache maps, we have fewer POIs, and we have to go with 
the subscription model, making it difficult to impossible to implement a 
cheap/free trial version of the app. From my perspective, it seems that a 
better map provider would fix a lot of the problems users have had since the 
app's release, but I'm sure Sendero considered all that when they chose to go 
with the one they did and has their reasons for their choice.
