[Ilugc] [OT] BSNL Broadband : question

Hi,
My configuration:
OS: FC3, user space patched, stock kernel.
Modem: UTStar
Host obtains IP address from modem through DHCP
I'm using Slackware 10.1, with the same modem and I've had lots of
problems too. I have a nforce2 mobo and am using the inbuilt ethernet
card. The modem would just refuse to connect - no specific error was
ever recieved. I faced the same problems with Windows XP on the same
machine. After lots of head wracking, I did manage to get it to
connect, but that only worked once, and I dont know how, and I couldnt
get it to connect half hour later. I even tried the other modem -
Huwaei ? I never got it to work.
I then tried it on my other computer, which has a 815 mobo with a
realtek ethernet card - and there the connection was made perfectly
and with no problem. I am currently using the connection on that
computer - and it works pretty well mostly, though there are frequent
downtimes on bsnl's side - but the speeds make up for that!!
So, I think it was some incompatibility problem with the nforce2
onboard ethernet, though I am not completely sure.
