Thank you for your response. That may be the problem in my case as
well. I have an nForce2 chipset mobo and am using the inbuilt ethernet.
I'll try with a NIC.
I faced the same problem when I was connecting to Sify (NO)broadband
nForce 2 chipset. When I changed the speed setting of the NIC from
"Autonegotiate" to "10 Base T- HD" it worked. That was because of the
switch that was used. Thought it might be helpful; still not sure of the
relevance to this thread.
PS: You can use "mii-tool" on Linux to do this.
