From what I have heard, almost everyone has only positive things to
say about BSNL dataone. In fact, I personally know of only one person
who had trouble. That too was because he screwed up big time while
filling up the forms and stuff. Remember this - BSNL is an
organization with the soul of a govt. dept. So you confuse them with
paper work (and oh, filling up the form in red ink has unintended
effects on the BSNL staff), and you are are asking for trouble. Pay
extra attention to the procedures and stuff, and you will be
pleasantly surprised by the quality of your connection.
The service itself is quite good, in as much as I have not experienced
much down time. At times I get more than 350 kbps on my 256 kbps rate
line. But then I fully expect to run into trouble if ever I require
manual assistance from BSNL staff, but so far I have been spared.
And yes, the bsnl modems are linux friendly. It's a big plus.
