Debian should be fair enough. after installing the base system, better
install a lightweight envt like Xfce, fluxbox or enlightenment. I
would suggest fluxbox for ur system configuration. Regarding browser,
firefox will blow your system(just 64mb ram). So better use opera. If
you dont want X atall, fine.. use lynx or elinks2
