Thanks everyone for suggesting various solutions for my problem.
Today I got 128 Megs of Ram and 40 GB of disk space in return for my 64 &
8gb equivalents from my dad..... So at the moment i don't think it Will be
Much of a problem to get RH9 on my system... But After looking at all the
suggestions I am Really Inclined to Use XFCE with Opera...
Today I tried rolling my own distro...based on uClibC & busy box...But my
plan failed and my comp was nowhere close to Usability (i Used a LFS6 live
CD as my development Environment). The buildroot Package seems to be an
Ideal Solution to my Idea but since i did not have enough time today I
simply downloaded the Root_fs file from the ftp.iitm.ac.in mirror of
uclibc (ftp://ftp.iitm.ac.in/pub/linux/libs/uclibc) after that mounted the
extracted file via a loop device and copied all the files over to my hdd
(the old 8gb one) after adding a kernel image and boot loader (GRUB) the
system was highly to my taste it takes only 8 seconds to boot in single user
mode with init directly launching /bin/sh and has the basic tool chain
etc... But still this has few packages like Dropbear Which Made my Second
bootup in the normal mode halt midway... I was thinking wether it woud be
possible to have a PC using a root filesystem constructed Using Buildroot
with options of i686 also the package selection screen of Buildroot Mentions
a Tiny X server in lieu of xorg this could also be tried out this method
does not allow me to use Opera which does not give Sources
I would also like to try debian but i only have the NetInstall CD and I
dont think I can Download A lot on My 64kbps Connection

Hello all,
I recently salvaged an old P3 500Mhz System with 64 MB of Ram & 8Gb HDD
(IDE).
Initially I Wanted to use this system as a Router & Server so i
installed two network adapters. But Recently i have thought of using this as
a comp that does both server and desktop.
My Server is basically a Mail/web server with virtual hosting and Ftp
Access.
The Desktop is mainly to run a Web Browser, Mail Client, Text Editor.
Does Anyone Know a Way to implement this
