Hi!
I recently salvaged an old P3 500Mhz System with 64 MB of Ram & 8Gb HDD
(IDE).
[snip]
But Recently i have thought of using this as a comp
that does both server and desktop.

Does Anyone Know a Way to implement this
If you are looking for a lean distribution that would run peacefully out of
the box on an old machine (such as the one you mentioned), try
Vector Linux 5.1 (
http://www.vectorlinux.com). I've been using the
same on a couple of old Compaq Deskpro machines (PII 233 MHz with
64 MB RAM) for a long time now.
Once you install Vector Linux, select your default desktop (by running
the command 'xwmconfig') to 'icewm-desk' - might give you a familiar
Windows XP look, (icewm window manager + ROX-Filer) but its fast
and highly usable on old machines. All desktop relevant software that
you need exist on this distro (including OpenOffice), along with XAMPP
(
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-linux.html) if you need
Apache+MySQL+PHP+ProFTPd
Vector Linux is based on Slackware, thus all packages (mail servers,
blah-blah) meant for Slackware linux could be installed as-is on this distro.
If you prefer to self-tweaking/self-customized distro for your old machine,
Slackware should be good to start with.
Cheers,
CSB
