My two cents...
If one cares about having them get help, though, we should steer
them towards practices that actually enhance the possibility of them
actually getting answers. This means everything that is in the asking
You do tell people right when they join the list that these are the
etiquette rules expected out of the mailing list. Even a monthly
reminder is sent about the rules which are expected from the members.
If they still don't follow the rules, it only means, as srs says, that
they don't give a damn about it. I think we should go ahead and reply
to those who do follow the general principles, rather than allocating
list traffic to educate such people. Well, as was said earlier in this
thread, if you are *really* care about the person who has "offended",
post him an personal message, as the message you would be conveying is
anyway supposed to be known by most in the list (and there's a monthly
reminder in place as well). On the lighter side, I think the offender
is more likely to correct himself/herself if he is flooded with
individual mails rather than those sent to the group ;)
