I am just looking at a huge advertisement in the newspaper - Compaq

HP for doing things like this? You think we should refuse

source software?
I certainly hoped for more from a free software group than I would
from a proprietary company whose main goal is to make money for its
share holders.
you have missed the point - the above three companies are the biggest
sponsors for FOSS events in India. The question I am asking is whether
we should not approach them for sponsorship because they also have
proprietary wings
These are proprietary companies. Of course they have proprietary
divisions. What on earth does this have to your hoarding the creative
efforts of someone else?
Are you saying we should treat fossconf organizers as we would
proprietary companies? Perhaps it _is_ time for a /. story.
see above - you have missed the point again.
No, I am afraid you are consistently demonstrating you have
little understanding of what the free in free software is all about.
Sure, there are companies that make money for their share
holders using proprietary software, And yes, some of them give money
for free software conferences. This has little to do with free software
organizations restricting freedom for creative efforts that they own.
Why this power play? Why are you trying to close off something
that was given to you in he spirit of freedom?
