laptops.. (was ..Re: [Ilugc] Window manager that is enemy of Mouse)

thinkpads are good - except for that @$^$^%& trackball device in the
middle of the keyboard that they pass off as a mouse.
I find a lot of people complain about the trackpoint device... But
strangely, I'm used to it so well that I couldn't easily adjust myself
to touchpads when I get my hands on a different notebook ;-). But then,
yes... vast majority of people are more comfortable with touchpads
(newer models of thinkpads have them too).
i've been using this acer for a while now and it is pretty good.
I've heard good reviews about acer too (though never got my hands on one
as yet). There's a rumour that a couple of IBM thinkpad models are being
manufactured (outsourced) at Acer itself... know not how far thats true,
yet someone told me that one of his "outsourced" IBM thinkpad had issues
with Linux (XFree86 rather) detecting the video chipset an year back.
There are these new notebooks that I've come across in this month's
PCQuest magazine - Ingram Micro, Edge, Connoi and Benq.
Anyone tried their luck getting Linux to work on these models ? Any
comments about their hardware support on Linux ?
