Thanks Rob – I was considering a Lesser Black-backed Gull since it seemed
larger than the Ring-billed Gulls present but smaller than a Herring Gull would
be. I’m interested to see what others think.

Plumage is fresh-no wear so 1st winter plumage?. Note the light tips of
primaries, secondaries, coverts, and tail. Impression without reference is a
larger rather than medium to small species. The bill seems thicker than
Ring-billed. All black bill is important imo. Too light for 1st winter Herring?
I don’t see any obvious combination of field marks that would eliminate
Herring. Black backs? Possible.
