I thought that was obvious. The difference is, in Germany (Berlin, actually) they bit the bullet and shut off PAL. > Is it the technology? The fact that indoor reception here is possible at distances well beyond 30 miles, in large measure thanks to our higher power transmitters, possibly also helped by a suppressed carrier scheme being more efficient at long range, implies exactly the opposite. You should revisit the mabb report, Craig. It shows that the majority of receivers were purchased by those who could pick up the mabb signal indoors. So it favored those within the 12 mile range of Berlin Mitte, and also favored those toward the west side of town, since that's the part of town two (or three) towers favor. So this should bode well here, with the new receivers appearing quite capable of indoor reception. Certainly, the program content makes a difference. So the broadcasters have to do this right.
