Sorry, I had not seen the "not" in "not at a disadvantage." I don't really understand what difference there is in the "business model," in your view, but I would not dismiss the technology angle so fast. I think that finally 8-VSB has caught up, but only just recently. As I suggested many many moons ago, when 8-VSB finally becomes capable of reception in severe multipath environments, *then* we can start reaping the rewards of the suppressed carrier scheme. I do not think that past receivers were bullet proof enough to make the broadcasters take their DTT plants as anything more than meeting a pesky govt mandate. The business model in Euro DTT, for the most part, seems to be based on more of the same FOTA television that was provided with PAL. In Berlin, exacly twice as many program streams as were previously offered in PAL TV. In France, they are adding a subscription-based HD service as well, but that has yet to prove itself in the marketplace. I would think that here, with the recent announcements from NBC, ABC, and CBS, a scenario much like that of Berlin could unfold.
