Show me where it says that, Craig. Those are your words.
First the headline of the article:
Show me where anything says that "cord cutting is bottoming out," Craig. Those
are your words. The article says nothing of the sort. Not the title, not the
text. All it says is exactly what I already knew you would get stuck at: that
cord cutting "is a trickle." And yet, subscriptions are now at 68%, says the
article. You were claiming they were over 90% just a couple of years ago, and
here we are with the "trickle."
Subscription Internet portals are no different than MVPD services.
Don't be obtuse, Craig. It's a whole different model. MVPDs are local
monopolies, intended to be so, and proven by the fact that they all offer very
similar packages. OTT sites cannot compete that way. It would make no sense at
all for multiple OTT sites to offer almost exactly the same programs, unless
they were deliberately designed to be geo-limited, to parrot the old MVPD model.
Just because something is offered for a fee instead of free does not make it
the same as the MVPD model. It cannot take so many years to make this simple
point.
They cannot price a direct service to stop the decline in viewership.
More nonsense. An individual channel can CERTAINLY price itself, as an
independent offering, to get back the customers it lost in the bloated bundling
scheme. It's the reason people like John Skipper are considering the idea. It's
the reason HBO did too. You continue to reply that HBO is different, for some
confused reasoning, but it's not. If people once had to pay for a lot of other
stuff for the one program they really wanted, now they don't. The most valued
programs can win out. The less fortunate ones will lose out.
As you say...prove it.
Skipper and Iger are both telling us that ESPN subscriptions are in decline.
That's proof enough for me.
They can certainly afford to get back the cord cutters.
How?
At what price?
At a price that keeps them in business, even if their profits won't be as big,
as opposed to going out of business.
Please provide the number of subscribers to these new bundles,
and the demographics of the subscribers.
You're the one making unsubstantiated claims that they aren't working out,
Craig. It's for you to prove it. I am instead telling you that this is the
future, and gosh, that's what we are seeing happening. Netflix gains, HBO was
losing. So, that's what the CEOs are talking about too. I've simply been
pointing out what these guys ARE doing, as opposed to your unsubstantiated
claims that nothing has changed with the Internet.
