Dale, I fully subscribe to your "works well" statement. I know it can
work well, because I've seen enough good reports of 5th gen devices that
work well. For example, reliable reception from long distances has been
demonstrated with 5th gen devices using only indoor antennas. I think
that's important to real OTA TV users. And not just here in the US.

Conversely, I find it disturbing that I can't achieve this (yet) with HD
Radio in hybrid mode, even with outdoor antenna. I trust, without proof,
that the problem is only due to the presence of the much stronger
adjacent analog signal, inherent in all HD Radio hybrid stations.

In short, I'm considerably more confident of analog shutoff for TV, as
of today, than I would be of AM/FM radio (not that this is being pushed
by the FCC). Especially when you consider that radio is very often used
in moving vehicles.

Not sure why that makes a difference. In Germany, they shut analog off
state by state, not all at once. Surely, we could do that, or something
similar, where the overall population of the US, vs those other
countries, would not be a factor.

Besides, with our greater population we also have greater resources.
