Cliff, I may not be a broadcaster, but I've seen PAL a whole lot of
times.
And 8 MHz PAL has 576 viewable lines, not 625, just as 6 MHz NTSC has
483, not 525.
I've also seen line-doubled PAL, which looks subjectively very smooth,
very much like good SDTV, but again on smallish screens. I have not seen
this on 60" screens.
