Duh.

Bull. Only a TINY percentage of ALL customers will be able to see
the difference between 1080P and 720P, and 720P can be upconverted
easily to 1080P by the few sets that will have this ability.

MORE BULL. The broadcaster has 6MHz, which currently equates to 19.2
Mbps for EVERYTHING they want to put in their multiplex. IT IS ABSURD
to believe that broadcasters should optimize that multiplex for a few
percent of the total audience. If you doubt this Bert, why are
broadcasters desperately trying to hold onto NTSC, which is inferior
to ANY ATSC digital format?

Apples and oranges. Analog transmission systems are...analog. It
makes sense to optimize the signal for the pipe, as this is the ONLY
program you can deliver via that pipe (sideband services aside). That
being said, most stations DO NOT optimize for best quality, but
rather, add pre-emphasis to the signals to make them "sound' better
in demanding environments, like vehicles.

A bunch of that audio range, because even FM cannot deliver it all.
Most stations are happy with CD quality. The reality is that NO
STATION is going to try to deliver everything using Super Audio CD,
because the difference in quality is negligible after the signal has
been processed and transmitted via the limited FM pipe.
