Back to the original article and it's presumption. You have a limited storage tablet or laptop. I can see a desktop with "persistence" for such a task (my argument) but not a portable device. Unless you want to run up your connectivity bill everywhere you go because there is a ton of vacation photos in the upload cue.

Well actually we ARE talking about streaming media to tablets, in addition to all of the other tasks that mobile devices are beginning to be used for that were at one time handled primarily with a desktop (and more recently laptop) computer.

One can argue that the desktop is not going away any time soon. They are kind'a like all of those old NTSC tube-based TVs that still take up space in the spare bedroom. What is important is changing usage patterns and the entire role that networked devices will play in our lives in the future. The DESKTOP PC is largely being relegated to the applications that require one to sit down and WORK.

As for whether the storage is local or in the cloud, the determining factor will be how well everything plays together, and how easy it is to use cloud storage versus keeping a PC server running, and properly backed up. The vast majority of folks out there don't even back up their PCs, or know how to get them working again after a hard disk crash or a virus attack.

We may be the wrong audience to be talking about this, as we tend to be more tolerant of "technology."

Craig
