Exactly. I'm so tired of hearing 'cloud' attached to anything. A cloud

you woud be shocked to see some 'cloud' services - I've seen ones

fancy looking website and some VC funding. Also, file storage is a far
bigger problem to solve than server image storage, and usually
requires a completely different design in the 'cloud'.

I agree with Kon that there is a great deal of hype here, and a wide range of implementations.

But there are some real products and success stories here as well. Carbonite is a good example.

And there are some VERY LARGE investments being made - e.g the data centers Apple is building in North Carolina. There were a number of stories yesterday about what Apple plans to do with this data center with respect to the TV industry, and the stories noted that Apple will likely build more data centers in the U.S. and Europe to support their new streaming services.

Just remember all of the things they naysayers have thrown up as show stoppers for the Internet over the past two decades. Somehow things always scale up to handle the issues...

and new problems that the pundits never considered.

I would not bet against cloud media services. In fact, one could legitimately argue that we have always looked to the clouds for TV service, be it OTA broadcasts, the local cable head ends, or a geosynchronous satellite bouncing streams from data centers in LA or Colorado.

Technology always manages to enable new ways of doing things.

Craig
