No Bert. As I pointed out,there is nothing new here. The cable guys have been
doing this to reach new screens for several years.
Point being, it does not require ATSC 3.0 to get live TV broadcasts to your
IP appliances. The article in question ties this with ATSC 3.0, but the
feature is not new news.
The problem is that broadcasters cannot reach new mobile screens with ATSC 1.0,
and most likely with ATSC 3.0 either. At least without another box to guarantee
reception and do the necessary conversion to IP and a modern codec. But
everyone does have an outdated ATSC receiver in their TV.
Meanwhile cable subscribers can access the content they are paying for even
while mobile, thanks to TV Everywhere...
