You are not getting it Bert. AS I EXPLAINED, the cable guys have had boxes like
this for several years. There is nothing new here - just the usual "late to the
party" innovation by broadcasters.
AND
The broadcasters can also put their stuff on the web, as they have to do for
any interactive service in ATSC 3.0 **anyway**.
So bottom line, use the ATSC 3.0 moniker to describe a mass migration to
Internet TV, if you must, but the constant focus on only the one-way
broadcast aspect misleads the innocent into thinking this is the main event.
If it is the main event, it won't go very far.
Something we can mostly agree on. Broadcasters do not need a new standard to
leverage the Internet. And they don't need a new transmission system to reach
smart antennas. What the can take advantage of is improved payload technology -
especially h.264 compression, which is needed anyway to reach the new screens.
Ask the innocent, and I'm sure they are misled into thinking the ATSC 3.0
broadcast will give them on-demand TV, targeted commercials, interactivity,
maybe even web browsing.
Ask if anyone cares...
