[projectaon] Transfer of Backpack Items

I finished Book 1 and am moving onto Book 2. In book 2, it states that my
weapons, special items, and Kai disciplines are transferred over from the first
book. But what about the backpack items? In moving from one book to the next,
do the backpack items just clear at the end of the last book to make way for
the new selection of backpack items in the beginning of the next one? Or can I
transfer them over?
Does this happen until Book 5 where we're allowed to safekeep all items?
