Hi Barry and Ronan, I have been mulling over the differences between Apache Open Office and Excel and I realise that the section function is covered in Calc. Step Excel Calc Select first cell position cursor in desired cel position cursor in desired cell Start range selection F8 No action Move to last cell in range f5 type cell reference shift-F5; press "end"; type":" followed by target cell reference Select range Range is now selected Range is now selected From the above, you can see that the shift F5 in Calc combines the functions of F8 and F5 in Excel to achieve the same result. The extra two keystrokes in Calc (moving to the right of the first element of the desired range with the "end" key and then typing a ":") is matched by the earlier use of F8 in Excel. In both cases, it is necessary to type in the last cell of the range. The next selection difference is in the fill down and right functions. Excel offers control-D and control -R once the range is selected. Calc offers its fil functions after pressing alt-e-I and arrowing around the fill dialog that results. When you know the fill function you can add the shortcut for the desired function thus: Fill down: alt-e-i-d and right: alt-e-i-r. This is not too tedious a manoeuvre, I think. I found a useful comparison of the operation of Calc in comparison to Excel that you might like to see. Rather than attach the page I have saved it in my Drop Box: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u1vcc3hxh0epv6d/Differences%20in%20Use%20between%2 0Calc%20and%20Excel%20-%20Apache%20OpenOffice%20Wiki.mht All the best, Cearbhall m +353 (0)833323487 Ph: _353 (0)1-2864623 e: cearbhall.omeadhra@xxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:vicsireland-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ronan McGuirk Sent: 15 May 2014 15:29 To: vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [vicsireland] Re: Apache Open Office improved accessibility Hi Barry and Cearbhall, Barry, F5 works well as you describe. If you hit F5 then edit the column destination, then tab and edit the row destination and press enter. This jumps you to the correct destination. One thing to watch for is that the current row and column are already populated and you need to delete/overwrite them when entering the new location. Control shift F5 works for selecting ranges. Simply type the range into the name box for example A3:B20 and press enter. NVDA doesn't verbally confirm that these are selected but if you hit control c and then move to a destination area and hit control v it seems to copy and paste correctly. For some reason, Calc gives a warning that the destination area is already populated, even when it isn't, before letting you paste, but it does it correctly nonetheless. All, in all, so far, I think Open Office 4.1 is looking very encouraging from an accessibility point of view. I think these issues I am experiencing relate more to learning and familiarity rather than to accessibility...
