Hello Jim this is the reply I got when I wrote to these people about my difficulty in reading E-Book.

Dear Mike,

Thank you for contacting iUniverse. Unfortunately all of our e-books are
created with the DRM restrictions attached. We are unable to separate
them and send you a different file. I am not aware of any restrictions
regarding screen readers but it could be possible that the DRM is
restricting this. If you would like, since you are unable to use the
e-book, I would be happy to issue you a refund for your order. Please
let me know what you would like to do.

Regards,

Blair Wyant

Hi Ronan,

Open xml-based standards are the future.
DRM-encumbered opaque binary formats will soon be history.
We should do everything we can to promote open text-based formats
and hasten EBooks into the history books.
Writers like Cory Doctorow and Charlie Stross are good counter-examples
to the lies that publishers tell us.

Hi all,

Jim I agree with you about ebooks.

However there is a growing amount of free online material.

For example, The Wikipedia encyclopedia is now excellent and appears to me
to be fully accessible and simple to search with Google. They have also
started free online textbooks at www.wikibooks.orb.

If anyone has had any success with Adobe or Microsoft ebooks could they
respond to this list? I personally have not had success with them and
have
given up on MS and Adobe ebooks.

By contrast the free online content seems to be getting better and better.

What do other VICS members think?

Ronan
