Hello

I've submitted a review request for an RPM of Yoshimi for Fedora.  The
request is at:

One thing that's come up is that different parts of the source have
different licences (see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=694994#c3).

I would guess this is a difference between the original/modified Zyn
files and those created from scratch by Alan.

In any case, I would be grateful if you could clarify this as the
current situation with two incompatible licences is problematic.

Hi,

Are you sure they're incompatible? When yoshimi got serious, I put some
effort
into getting my head around the licensing issues. If I've got it wrong, I'm
keen to correct things, but here's how I read things:
- everything in original zyn is strictly gpl2
- the overall application is tagged gpl2
- given those two, the yoshimi application should also be tagged gpl2
- I preferred everything I wrote to be gpl3
- as I read the licensing relationships, I couldn't see a problem with a
gpl2 app
 including gpl3 source files.

Am I wrong?

cheers, Cal

Cal,

As I understand it, if the licence is strictly GPLv2 only (not GPLv2
or later), that's not compatible with GPLv3 in the same program.

See:

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#v2v3Compatibility

Cheers,
Adam
