Paul changed the original license from GPL2 to GPL2 or later some time
ago.

If you check the archives I think you will find this is mentioned on the
Zyn
list.

Thanks, I'll take a look. Here we go, heffalump 2.

First reference is in the archives August 2007 :)

It's not entirely clear *exactly* when it was changed from these, and Paul
didn't report it to the list. However I have personal e-mails from Paul
stating
that he had done this by 9 September 2007

Thanks Will, that was certainly an interesting read. I wasn't aware Lars was
working on this stuff way back in 2007!!

From looking through the sources, it's all a bit of a befuddled mess. I need
to
do some more reading of the GPL website before I come to any conclusions on
what needs to be done. My first impression is that I've incorrectly tagged the
zyn derived files as gpl2 only, whereas Paul's original sources suggest the
"or later" condition. I say "suggest" because I'm not sure the actual wording
used does in fact specify "gpl2 or later".

cheers.

For your eyes only!
Here is the correspondence I had at the time.
Hmm, it seems being a squirrel has its uses :)

Hi Paul.

Is there any chance of you changing the license of Zyn. to GPL 3 (or
GPL2 or later).

Lars Luthman has said he is interested in doing the necessary work to
make Zyn. RT safe, but wants the added protection of the newer license
before doing so.

That's cool, but the interesting part is whether it will be compatible
with "version 3 or later", which "version 3 only" isn't (that's not even
compatible with the most common licensing option today, "version 2 or
later").

In fact, Paul changed it to version 2 or later which is probably the safest
of the lot.

In the end, I think we have to settle on a 'best effort' at
compatibility. The only people likely to consider making a fuss about it are
Microsoft (like they did about Google Android headers) and as the code is
nothing to do with them, I would have great pleasure in telling them to have
sex and travel!

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
