Just to be sure, did you try 'yoshimi -a' ?
The line "Midi:  jack -> 'default'" from your console output
indicates that yoshimi is using Jack-Midi, which is the default
behaviour. To override it, use the -a (Alsa-Midi) option.

There's definitely something a little weird behind this. I first noticed it a
short while back, I _think_ after I updated qjackctl.  Until now, I've not
actually looked into it seriously - I use jack midi, so it didn't actually
trouble me, plus I haven't been all that well lately.

For me, the problem seems to start with qjackctl - there simply isn't a Midi
tab presented in the Connections dialog. Running aconnect -i/-o shows
yoshimi's
midi port, and I can establish connections with aconnect. So, what is
preventing qjackctl from listing my alsa ports? All just a little bit weird,
and I'm struggling to get my head around it at the moment.

cheers.

I'm using qjackctl 0.3.5 here and everything seems normal.
I recall that _very_ old versions of qjackctl had no Midi tab,
back in the days when Jack-Midi was a brand new thing.
However - forget this - this was some years ago.
With all the best wishes for your health,

greetings,
david
