Paddy, I agree completely. I reckon personally that TALKS has to be the best bit of kit I've used in a long long time. I couldn't have half the fun I do with my circle of friends and family sending me jokes and laughs without TALKS. Every time my little bell rings with a text message, I wonder who is going to make me laugh at something terrible or cheeky!

And that's without the serious things you can do with TALKS like the contacts book, calendar, music player, Bluetooth ... and so it goes on. It's fab, and I've become a terrible mobile phone anorak because of it now (laughs).

I think the K-NFB software is very very expensive, both in terms of being on the original Reader and now on a cell phone, but, like you, I want to see what it can do on a handset. Blimey the folk in our Vodafone shop already think it's amazing that we can do so much thanks to TALKS, so I'd love to see what they made of the K-NFB software on it too!

Jackie,

Here here on the price of talks/mobile speak.

I think 150 quid is a drop in the bucket for the access these two products give us.

I've heard rumours about cracks of these floating about and although I can't hand on-heart say I've never evaluated software that was licenced under a different name in the past I think this is complete and utter cheapness on the behalf of some blind folks.

It makes the rest of us who are genuine and want the playing field to be at least achievable for the majority and not just the fortunate few look cheap as well.

The reading software is massively over-priced and yet I still want it and I want the independence that it promises.

Dj Paddy

Yes that's right Andy from what I understand too. But I bet it won't be long before other mobiles supporting this type of flash with the Symbian operating system will be available to at least provide the end user with some choice. If what the software developers are saying is true, it would have to be future proof for a wider selection of phones. They are supposedly chucking a lot of dosh at developing the software, and with what they are charging for it, they must expect to be doing more with other phones or else it'll be defunct in no time.

It's the K-NFB software that I think is extortionate, not the phone or TALKS. For me, the ability TALKS gives us to do what we can with a mobile is worth every penny frankly. But while the K-NFB software is designed to be portably accessed, it is a lot of money, both over there and here.

I'm really curious to see how the Reader and the phone compare as two different animals. What would happen, for example, if you were using the phone to read a document with the K-NFB software, and you got a text, or someone rang you. Yes it's very interesting from a usability sense.

Jackie and Terry -

It is certain to work on future models, but they will have to be equipped
with the xenon flash, which as I understand it, the n95 isn't, so the
software won't be backwards compatible as it can't be really. From what I've heard, I understand it could actually be used on the N95, but it wouldn't function as reliably because the N95 uses the led flash, and not the xenon
flash. Hope I've got that right <smile> -

| Hi Terry
|
| I would be prepared to bet it will be available on other phones at some | point, it's inevitable I suppose. Let's face it, the company producing
this

mobile
| chart within three to six months are they?
|
| I haven't heard the N82 yet, so couldn't say whether it is better in sound
