Contacting websites about accessibility is an area where BCAB could be of
help to its members. While not a campaigning organisation, it is a good
technical organisation and this is certainly an area we can look at
providing support in.

Hi there. You'll be happy to hear I'm not saying that at all! When I
said 'alternative' I was referring to the fact that there is an
alternative for graphics labelling whereas there isn't an alternative
way of viewing jumpy dynamic pages. Not suggesting we need coders to
build us a special alternative website ... Oh no. No way.
Happily we're all singing from the same hymn sheet generally ...
What I am saying is that we need to reach out a bit more. I think part
of the issue here is that we perhaps don't know what's going wrong with
a website and so don't feel confident in contacting the site as we can't
easily explain what's going on.
Anyone any solutions on how to get round this? Have you ever contacted a
website if it's fatally inaccessible or badly usable for you? If not,
why not?
Universal access is an extremely important principle that we need to
fight for in every way we can. And I'm still anxious after hearing Ed
Vasey's pronouncement that legislation isn't needed to bring about
access to products. If legislation isn't needed then there needs to be
an alternative carrot answer to this where insentives are given for
accessibility. Though I'm not sure that'll work.
I see the Goodman's box as the first proper mainstream Freeview box.
With access to menus, information and audio description, it's taken 12
years to get here and technology is moving so fast that who knows what
the TV landscape will hold in another 12 years. I suspect we'll have
gone through another 2 platforms or generations at least by then.

Should we really be seeking alternatives? We have strived for years to
be included in the mainstream society and finally, certain tech
developers are making that possible. However, wouldn't our time be
better spent educating the creators of such dynamic pages so that we
can use the same pages as everyone else?
