But that's exactly the case. Why would anyone expect someone working for PC World to be knowledgeable in screen readers and adaptive technology? Good that they acknowledged that you're the expert, because you are...

I have to admit that I've always had good service when I've taken machines to be upgraded or repaired and the tech guys that do the repairs and upgrades are very good and don't treat you in a patronising manner if they can see you know a bit about computers.

Having said that, there's also some very good small independant computer shops that will bend over backwards to help and at a resonable price. Again though, you'll be disappointed if you think they're going to know anything more than the actual existence of screen readers.

Regards.

Agreed it would seem that now that this has been raised most of us have

Try and tell them about screen readers and see what happens.

Hello,

I am a new member to this group and I believe that PC world are not that

much about the products they were trying to sell you. So my husband and
I went elsewhere.

The staff at PC world are little more than badly trained teenagers,
stay clear! as for the Zoo storm, apparently thay are pretty poor,
especially the build quality. Plus, they have dodgy chargers - rubbish
keyboards.

The last time we tried to buy something from PC world we left after the
security staff were extremely rude and objected to us physically
handling
the laptops on display. when we asked for the manager he told us that
if we
want him we should find him ourselves. And i've heard their staff aren't
exactly up to scratch on what their products do or are capable of. but
that
just my experience.

Hi,

The thing to bare in mind is always after-sales-support. How do you
get the machine back to them? probably you paying, you finding a
large enough box, you making sure it's boxed securely and doesn't'
get damaged in transit. The company will ship it back to you in 1 to
2 working weeks.

I know the machines from these companies that deal exclusively online
are very attractive with their specs but that's only one part of the
"New computer hunt process".

Have you considered PC World? It's very very hard to beat their
specs, (if you shop around), especially when you combine that with
their after-sales-support. They'll either send an engineer to your
house, Parcel Force to pick the unit up, or if you live close enough
you can offer to bring it to the Tech Guys in-store. The max
turn-around I've had for a Motherboard replacement on a Desktop was 3
days, from drop off to pick-up. My local PC World is very good at
support.

BTW. I would not buy components/peripherals from PC World as the
retail price is too high. I treat these like convenience items, in
say a local Spar.

Regards,
Barry.

From what I've seen on Ebuyer etc, they produce a lot of machines
which don't have an OS pre-installed; this, in my opinion
substantially takes down the price of, so that you spend more on the
component-side of things.
