This has the same problem that a Ringworld has, i.e. once you get off
center, it just accelerates more and more until a part of it impacts
the sun and the rest goes flying off somewhere.

I like the Iain M. Banks model of "plates" which are smaller and more
stable, since the rotating ring of plates orbits around the sun, so
there's not nearly as much worry about keeping the system perfectly
centered  at all times.

Now I'm sure there's problems with Plates as well, but I don't have
the math to examine the details well enough beyond "proof by vigorous hand
waving" levels of certainty.
