People have choices, you know? They can basically do what they want to do.
I do not know of many 'idiots' that you speak of. Last time I wanted
someone to switch to Linux, he wanted to know if 3D games like Crysis, Half
Life, etc. Some one else had problems with his G-Force graphics card. And
people just want to get stuff done. They don't care about social, political
merits. Not everyone care about philosophy nor is everyone altruistic.
Not everyone plays Crysis. Then you need very good hardware for Crysis.
I have a GTX 470 with 8Gig RAM. I love Crysis and play it every time a
new version comes out. I buy a copy from Amazon and finish it in 3-4
hours. That's all I need Windows for "only 3-4 hours every year". For
everything else I use GNU/Linux. The merits that I get from GNU/Linux
outside gaming is unmatched. I have converted a lot of users from Windows.

When you talk about, gamers they are a minority in the PC world. 80%
desktop users don't play such games. Most hard-core games have consoles.
Additionally, Crysis is not for Mac as well. No. In fact a lot of
Windows apps are not available for Mac. Are Mac using turning into
Windows users? No, the tide is going the other way round. So, that's not
a valid reason.
However, people don't care doesn't mean those who care will stop caring.
People in India don't care about personal hygene, clean drinking water.
Does that mean no one should care? The protest for Lokpal Bill shows
people DO care. But we shy away from our responsibility of educating
them by saying 'who cares'.
I wonder why we need non-free Microsoft products at all given their
stand on competition and openness. [..] Buying M$
Widows copy for Linux is like feeding a shark only to come back and
attack us.
Again, people don't care. Not everyone is us. People have differing
opinions.
In that case its even more important to invest our resources in changing
their opinion instead of asking M$ to port M$Office to Linux.
