'C' language existed before gcc and Linux. So will you say 'C' should
not be used, ditch Linux?
It feels like you suggest that people who used proprietary OSes for 30
years should not use Linux because Linux was not there then. Isn't it
completely flawed? I am failing to understand what you are suggesting
here. Would be great if you can provide little more detail so that
people can understand your point well.

We should ask for clarity from the op. My guess is OP is asking for .NET
4.6  or earlier edition.

Microsoft named its .NET 5 as .NET core 1.0, should understand .net core
1.0 is new comparing the earlier .NET editions. [1]

.NET 4.6 is  live and different from .NET Core 1.0 with respect to license
and other software features.

Like the saying "in rome, be roman", similarly in ilugc be fossian. Any
discussion connected with floss is perfect, otherwise not.
