What version of Firefox do you use? Why don't you try building Firefox
with whatever optimal settings on your machine?
I'm using Gentoo/PPC and I don't experience any problems, even though I
have Firefox, Flock and Thunderbird all open at the same time.
I'm not saying Firefox has a small memory footprint, but it doesn't suck
that much ;)
How much RAM does your machine have in first place?
