All,
I have been interested in this discussion with many people
in the past.
But my basic question remains unanswered.
When you say unix, you say vi but not emacs
So if i want to be efficient in quick work in unix then i rather
put more effort in learning vi rather than emacs
are there any other views on tis ?
My take on this, master one and atleast learn the basics in the other. But I
have a sneaky feeling you asked this on purpose to start a long flamewar :P.
But afai's', more sysadmins use vi (..or is it vim) than emacs. Bah, I
really think I should stop here.
In case if you were wondering, I am a vim -> GNU Emacs convert and use it as
an IRC client, shell and almost configured it to run gnus if it werent for
the crappy fetchmail overhead. Oh, by the way modes exist in both the
editors which emulates the other..
e.g, viper emulates vi keybindings in emacs..
But yes emacs, does seem to give me that "pinky" problem. First time I used
it, I kept hitting [ESC] to change modes..heh
