But my basic question remains unanswered. When you say unix, you say
vi but not emacs
I have been using UNIX and Emacs since 1987. I am not sure I
agree with the statement above: TECO Editing MACroS , or Emacs, was
first created in 1976, and inspired by TECMAC and TMACS, a pair of
TECO-macro editors. TECO was first written in the 1960's.
Incidentally, vi was also first released in 1976, so they are
equally ancient, and neither can claim precedent.
So if i want to be efficient in quick work in unix
then i rather put more effort in learning vi rather than emacs
That is your choice. I tend to start a background emacs under
screen when I log in, and then emacsclient -c file.c is actually faster
than running vim on it.
are there any other views on tis ?
Of course there are. Did you think the whole world was just
black and white?
