I had installed ubuntu8.10 and from then my system never hanged even once.

Fine.

I want to know the structure and process of a website project.
I had knowledge of html and i have now learnt php from a book(for dummies 
series).

Are you a student?

Self learning is so much needed to really rock in the field.

Can people tell me how to proceed? what more to learn and which other books 
to read?
i have installed php5 and apache2 on my ubuntu8.10system.

If you are into web development,
make sure that you are well in the following areas

HTML
CSS
Javascript
Database
server side scripting language - like PHP


There are plenty of books available in internet.

Learn the Basics first. Try with simple examples.


Or give me some assignments in php? or is there some thing else that is 
crucial to web >development that is required.


If you have enough knowledge, you will automatically get freelance projects.
Take them and finish them in time.

Also to contribute to the open source movement i want to begin with doing 
documentation for >any project or review it as i am quick at pointing out 
typos. Can someone give me a project to >document or review its 
documentation?.
