Uh-huh. From my perspective, that's a very bad place to start. Sure
they're popular, but I've seen programmers permanently scarred by the
'php mindset'. They can't grok good app design if it hits them on their
head. Perhaps SICP is overkill, but it's not such a bad place to start.
Sohail, I would recommend you aim higher - go learn Ruby or Python.
Start with self-respecting web-frameworks like Rails or Django. They
won't be as easy to get started with as PHP, but it will be worth your
effort. Oh yes, if you want to get anywhere in modern web development at
all, take Mano's advice and don't forget to master Javascript :).
