Out of sheer curiosity, was any testing of the analog 'ghost = cancellation test signal' receiving equipment=20 ever done at the Schubin apartment using just an indoor antenna? ________________________________ From: opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx on behalf of Mark Schubin Sent: Wed 12/7/2005 1:51 PM To: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [opendtv] Re: Integrated DTV PSIP John Shutt wrote: >I'll let mark speak to the properties (or lack thereof) of the NTSC = ghosts >he receives at his apartment. >=20 > I think Bert nailed it pretty well. There are unquestionably ghosts -- in the canyons of Manhattan, how could there not be? -- but they are pretty close and, therefore, relatively innocuous. They don't even interfere with reading text in commercials. There is no signal-strength issue with my analog reception, so the only thing keeping the pictures from being studio grade is the ghosts. NTSC reception with a set-top antenna remains very good. ATSC reception with a set-top antenna, except for the LG 5th-generation box, is spotty to non-existent. For what it's worth, during the brief period of DTT from the World Trade Center (which was an earlier era of boxes), the problems seemed comparable. That was more like six miles rather than two.
