John, You need to do a bit of research about your beliefs. After the CBS/Viacom split, CBS was given Showtime. Sumner Redstone's National Amusements owns a controlling interest in both CBS and in Viacom, hence the wording of my email.

I believe that CBS doesn't own Showtime; Viacom spun off CBS several yearsback, and unless I missed something, Showtime is a Viacom property, and CBSTV is a CBS, Inc. property. There is some common ownership and overlap among the boards, but each has adifferent mission (and a fiduciary duty to shareholders.) As long as the national cable networks don't own cable systems, and don't pander to cable, they would seem to have an incentive called incremental revenues and profits to attract new audiences. Come to think of it, what incentive did national amusements have to encourage cable networks, since they also own outdoor and indoor moviepalaces, but I might have missed them exiting from the exhibition business.John Willkie -----Mensaje original----- De: opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] En nombre de John Shutt Enviado el: Tuesday, November 13, 2007 8:57 AM Para: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Asunto: [opendtv] Re: News: Fox Says Mandated PSAs Would Be Illegal----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Wilson" <stevenjwilson@xxxxxxxxxxx>What I dont get is why the broadcasters arent out there trying to get new customers given their new-found bandwidth. They seem to be all overmobile broadcast, but when it comes to DTV - you just get blank stares andshrugged shoulders.Because ABC/Disney owns ESPN, Fox owns Fox Sports and Fox News, NBC owns CNBC and MSNBC, and CBS owns Showtime, and through it's parent corporation National Amusements still has ties to all of the Viacom channels including the MTV networks. Given that, what incentive do the national networks have in luring viewers away from DBS/Cable?
